CIK Cell Therapy starts from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) collected from your own blood. These cells are isolated and then stimulated in a laboratory environment over approximately 14 to 21 days.

The stimulation process discussed in LINNA's clinical material involves interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), anti-CD3 antibody and interleukin-2 (IL-2). The resulting CIK cells display characteristics associated with both NK cells and T cells.

What are cytokine-induced killer cells?

PBMC are the immune cells found in circulating blood. When those cells are cultured under specific laboratory conditions with IFN-γ, anti-CD3 antibody and IL-2, a population develops that carries surface and functional characteristics of both natural killer cells and T lymphocytes.

That dual character is why the cells are described as cytokine-induced killer cells. The laboratory work is a controlled process with quality assessment before anything is returned to the patient.
